Derry vs Antrim – Athletic Grounds, Armagh, Saturday, June 25 at 4pm

Derry will be aiming to capture the Ulster Senior title when they take on rivals and defending champions Antrim at the Athletic Grounds, Armagh on Saturday at 4pm.

John A Mullan and Barney McGrellis’s side got their All-Ireland campaign off to a winning start with a 5-13 to 1-08 victory over Kilkenny and Mullan hopes that his side can push on from there and add the Ulster title.

“Hopefully the Kilkenny game will put us in good preparation for the Ulster Final. We said at the start of the year that we wanted to win the Ulster and we will do what we can to achieve that goal. We feel that we were let down last year and we want to make that right. We have a strong squad to choose from and everyone is more than capable of doing their job, we know Antrim will be tough opposition but we will go out and play our game. The pitch is a good open one that suits or style of play and hopefully we can come away with the win on Saturday,” said Derry manager John A Mullan.

Derry have been without All-Stars Grainne McGoldrick and Ashling Diamond who returned to the panel this year, due to injury but younger players have come to the fore and are proving they have the talent to compete at the top level.

Grainne McNicholl and Shuaneen Donaghy impressed during the National League and Donaghy was once again in fine form in defence for the Oak Leafs when they defeated Kilkenny. Kilrea’s Karen Kielt and Sinead Cassidy have lead the scoring threat for Derry and they will be hoping that they can continue their sharp-shooting against an Antrim defence that were dominate during the Saffrons National League campaign.

Indeed the current Premier Junior holders will prove tough opposition with Jane Adams and Shannon Graham both capable of causing the Derry defence problems but Derry have experience in their back-line in the form of ‘keeper Claire O’Kane, Katrina O’Kane and Shauna Murphy.
